Let’s get on with Gas
A message for parents, carers and teachers
We hope you’ll find these activities useful to help you discuss gas safety at home, and to make young people aged 7 – 11 aware of the dangers of carbon monoxide. For younger children, we’ve provided links to fun and interactive resources to prompt discussion and understanding of carbon monoxide.
It is vital that children and young people are aware of the importance of using gas appliances safely in the home. It is not only gas leaks that can cause problems: faulty appliances can produce carbon monoxide, a poisonous gas that has no smell or taste. Breathing it in can make you unwell, and it can kill if you’re exposed to high levels. Every year more than 4,000 people are diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning, and every year there are around 60 deaths from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning in England and Wales, so children and young people do need to be aware of how to avoid dangers.
With the support of SGN we have developed some resources for you to use to discuss these issues with young people at home.
You can download more information on these resources HERE.
If you are worried about gas safety in your home, you can find advice from the Gas Safe Register website and the Gas Safe Charity.
