Supporting Consumers in the Water and Energy Sector

A National Energy Action and Waterwise e-learning course.  

National Energy Action and Waterwise have worked in partnership to deliver a joint energy and water efficiency training package, with a particular focus on consumers in situations of vulnerability.   
 
The project forms part of a wider water and energy efficiency work package bid funded by the Collaborative Fund. This fund is linked to the UK Water Strategy to 2030 and is contributed to by water companies across the UK. 

Who we are

National Energy Action is the national charity working to end fuel poverty In England, Wales and Northern Ireland.  


We offer advice and support to fuel-poor households, as well as advocating for policy and regulation to protect the most vulnerable households. We also offer training to frontline staff of other organisations, so they can best support fuel-poor households. Find out more here.

Waterwise is the leading independent voice in the UK for using water wisely, for the benefit of people and the planet.  

Course audience
Course aim

The course is designed to give information and practical advice to those working with consumers who may be in fuel or water poverty, and/or situations of vulnerability, in both the energy and/or water sectors. Its main aim is to equip learners with the knowledge they need to support water and energy consumers, including identifying those who may be at risk; provide advice on how to save water and energy where possible, and signpost to external assistance from relevant organisations for both sectors.  

Course objectives

The five key objectives are the following:  

  • Explore the need to be water and energy efficient 
  • Identify the causes, risks and scale of fuel and water poverty  
  • Discuss what it means for a consumer to be in a situation of vulnerability 
  • Explore supplier obligations and the support consumers should expect when in a situation of vulnerability  
  • Identify methods in which to save both energy and water in the home to reduce costs, and where best to apply them

Delivery method

E-Learning

How will the e-learning work

E-learning is self-led, giving learners the flexibility to study as and when they wish. 

Once registered, learners will have access to the course for four weeks and be able to study online at a time and location that is convenient to them. 

The course includes a variety of written text, interactive activities etc. to keep learners engaged. A short quiz is also included at the very end of the course to test the learner’s knowledge. 

This course is optimised with text to audio features, to support learner experience. 

Tutor support

Tutor support will be available upon request, this is usually done via email. 

Suggested study time

This course will take approximately 2 hours to complete, however, each learner is different, and e-learning offers the flexibility to study at your own pace. Learners will have access to the course for four weeks from their selected start date.

GROUP / ORGANISATION BOOKINGS

We also offer ‘organisational licences’ to organisations that have a large number of staff to train. This will provide access for 6 months or 12 months for an unlimited number of learners.  Discounted rates are applicable to organisations in the water sector, please contact trainingadmin@nea.org.uk for more information. 

This type of licence will provide a tailored version of the course specifically for the organisation. 

Included within the licence fee are two tailored slides to add information that is specific to your organisation. This may be information on local schemes, contact details etc. Additional tailored slides can be purchased upon request. 

The organisation can appoint an admin person who will be able to access reports on learner activity.

    4. The e-learning is copyright protected and must not be printed or copied.
    5. Cancellations:
      ~ Any cancellations received after login details are sent will still be charged at the full rate as outlined above.
      ~ Notice of cancellation must be confirmed in an email.
      ~ These conditions will not apply if the course is postponed or cancelled by NEA.
