Smart Solar in Barnsley

The smart solar in Barnsley project was an innovation project funded by the Energy Industry Voluntary Redress Scheme. It installed 75 Alpha ESS batteries with a 2.9kWh capacity in socially rented bungalows with solar PV that are managed by Berneslai Homes. The batteries were installed by the Berneslai Homes electrical team. The project was managed by Energise Barnsley and Age UK Barnsley provided advice to residents after the installations. The evaluation assessed resident satisfaction with the installation and whether residents had changed how they used electricity. The battery discharge and level of self-consumption of the solar generation were calculated and the impact of PV generation and household consumption on the savings were assessed. The impact of issues such as loss of internet connection for the batteries and CT clamps being reversed were discussed.
