Increasing self-consumption of solar PV: Monitors and solar immersion controllers

This project aimed to install a series of small measures which could complement solar PV systems. These included solar PV monitors, solar immersion controllers and smart plugs. The report reviews the different technologies that were installed and assesses the performance of a number of installations. These include GEO Solo PV II, Eco Eye Smart PV, Solis WiFi dongle and Wibeee Box monitors. The performance of a myenergi eddi and a Solar iBoost solar immersion controller were assessed over a period of about a year. Factors which affected savings with the solar immersion controller included the solar PV generation, household electricity consumption, hot water demand and length and position of the immersion heater.
