Today, the government announced an expansion in eligibility for the Warm Home Discount.
National Energy Action Chief Executive Adam Scorer responds, ‘Today Ofgem announced the third, successive, quarterly increase in energy bills. Three years into an energy price crisis. National Energy Action welcomes the UK government’s plans for next winter to extend energy bill support to those in real hardship and to tackle the toxic debt burden that has crushed many household budgets.
‘The changes should remove complexity and extend automatic rebates to many more low-income working age households. This is particularly vital for lone parent households where fuel poverty rates are highest and the impact of a cold home are very acute.
‘Beyond next winter, government will need to do more to deepen bill discounts through the Warm Homes Discount scheme, access to advice and support from organisations like National Energy Action and practical measures to make homes warmer and cheaper to heat.’
