National Energy Action Chief Executive Adam Scorer responds to a BBC investigation finding that some victims of failed insulation schemes are missing out on recompense.
Adam says, ‘We’ve seen first-hand the misery and health problems poor quality installations can have. National Energy Action has had to step into a failed project in Preston and put things right for dozens of householders let down by poor workmanship and inadequate consumer protections. It should not fall to a charity like us to address the failings of government schemes and commercial firms.
‘Every day, thousands of homes will benefit from well-installed insulation. These shocking examples of poor practice, and the suspicion that it is more widespread than reported, can only undermine trust in all forms of energy saving schemes.
‘The Government and industry must respond with real urgency to the scale of these challenges. Government will be acutely aware of the vital role consumer protection, high standards and advice will need to play in their upcoming Warm Homes Plan. National Energy Action will continue to press for the resources to directly help communities like these who need urgent support rebuild their homes and their lives.’
