Innovation and Technical Evaluation
Meet the Team
Michael Hamer
Technical Manager
Michael holds a BSc in Natural science and a PGCert in Management (2011) and has over 15 years of direct experience of managing and delivering energy efficiency projects within both domestic and industrial settings. Michael has worked for NEA since 2012, and prior to this Michael worked in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (Cardiology), followed by a period in Electronics & Electrical Engineering, gaining HND’s in both of these disciplines. Working with a diverse range of partners, including manufacturers, housing providers and Distribution Network Operators, Michael has managed over 60 energy efficiency projects, focussed on testing and evaluating multiple technologies installed into fuel poor households. Michael’s interests include the evolving energy landscape, energy distribution and storage, and renewable generation, and how these can bring benefits to fuel poor customers.
Paul Rogers
Senior Innovation and Technical Evaluation Co-ordinator
Paul has an MA in Natural Sciences and a PhD in Materials Science (1995) from the University of Cambridge. In recent years he has worked in the solar industry and community energy sector. Paul has worked for NEA since 2016, part of the technical department, evaluating the performance of energy saving and renewable technologies in fuel poor homes. This has involved analysis of data streams from technologies and monitoring devices to assess improved performance and thermal comfort. Areas of interest include solar PV and batteries, smart heating controls and park home insulation. He is currently working on projects installing and evaluating the performance of energy storage and heat pumps and providing advice and technologies to households with solar PV
Frankie O’Keeffe
Technical Evaluation Co-ordinator
Frankie holds a BSc in Environmental Economics & Environmental Management from the University of York and a Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainability in Energy Provision and Demand Management from the Centre for Alternative Technology. She has delivered advice to fuel poor householders across Cumbria, through home energy audits, tariff switching and installation of draught proofing and light touch energy savings measures. As an Energy Efficiency and Low Carbon Specialist for a renewable energy consultancy she worked with SME’s conducting energy audits and making recommendations on energy efficiency improvements to their facilities and processes, as well as renewable energy techno-economic assessments. Frankie delivers a suite of Technical Innovation projects, designing and specifying project monitoring regimes, and supporting installers and the wider NEA teams in deploying technologies and monitoring the impact on fuel poor households. Frankie’s interests are in climate change, and equitable solutions to addressing it.
Jenny Dimas
Innovation and Technical Evaluation Officer
Jenny gained her Masters degree in Renewable Energy from the University of Hull, holds a second Masters degree in Geography and also holds a BSc in Geography and a Level 4 Award in Decarbonising homes technologies, impacts and solutions. Jenny’s professional background includes substantial experience in research data collection and analysis. She has provided valuable technical support to projects focusing on water, health, and sanitation for vulnerable communities under different charities. Jenny is a technical specialist with specific interest in energy efficiency, environmental sustainability, and climate adaptation. She is committed to promoting engagement in these areas to improve the general standard of living especially for the vulnerable population.
Michelle Clarke
Technical Evaluation Co-ordinator
Michelle gained her degree from the University of Nottingham in Biology followed by working on practical community projects that supported people to live more sustainably, with a particular focus on energy, waste and food. Michelle has a passion for reducing climate change, improving homes and the health and wellbeing of the people living in them. Initially undertaking home visits to install small measures and provide energy efficiency advice, Michelle moved to technical research to study and quantify the effect of technologies installed in properties, whilst still providing bespoke advice and support to all the recipients of the technologies delivered by the team.
Chelsie Stevens
Technical Evaluation Co-ordinator
Chelsie gained her degree from the University of the West of England in geography and environmental management, whilst undertaking a role to help tackle the climate emergency through sustainable energy. Following this Chelsie worked as a quantity surveyor and then a secondary school teacher. Chelsie has a passion for reducing climate change and improving the knowledge of technologies which can help the environment as well as the number of households in fuel poverty. Chelsie is researching and quantifying the effect of technologies installed in properties and monitoring the performance of these through live projects in the community. Chelsie’s interests include renewable energy generation, the current and future energy mix and using research to inform future policy as well as assisting fuel-poor customers to improve their wellbeing.
