In partnership with E.ON and Coventry City Council, National Energy Action’s Training and Education team has been helping hundreds of students learn about energy efficiency, and empowering them in their future careers and as future tenants.
The project, in partnership with E.ON and Coventry City Council, focuses on renewable technology and how pupils could apply their learnings and imagination to make some exciting creations. It introduced pupils from year 5 (ages nine and 10) to different renewable technologies and how they can be used in our homes and schools. Then it was over to them to unleash their creativity.
One pupil came up with a multitasking pen, powered by solar and another designed a smart speaker powered by using pedals under the desk.
Student knowledge improved noticeably
We analysed pupils understanding and knowledge of renewable technology before and after the workshops and the impact was significant. There were noticeable improvements in the following areas:
· The use of renewable energy being important for the future of our planet – 91.74% (up from 68.58%)
· Believing that they can do something to help change the planet – 82.11% (up from 62.84%)
· Believing that there are jobs that they can do in the future, that don’t yet exist – 71.1% (up from 35.32%)
· Being excited about their future job opportunities – 81.19% (up from 69.04%)
The partnership with E.ON and Coventry City Council has been fantastic, enabling us to do vital work with these students.
Find out about our school workshops
National Energy Action’s Education and Team works across different stages of education and learning environments to ensure that young people have the knowledge and skills to be active citizens and successful first-time tenants themselves.
We ensure that the development of our resources is matched against the national curriculum and the programmes of study, so we are enhancing what schools are already developing. As ex-teachers ourselves, we know that there are gaps in the curriculum. We know that we can enhance science, geography, maths, English, PSHE and careers education.
