Advent Calendar Day 4: Michael’s story
Michael* was living in socially rented accommodation and struggled with anxiety and hypertension. Before retiring, Michael had an income of less than £12,000 a year and was living on even less than that when he was referred to National Energy Action.
When he was referred, his gas cooker was found to be leaking carbon monoxide and was subsequently decommissioned by his local authority. Due to his low income, he was unable to get a replacement and so couldn’t cook himself a warm meal.
Our adviser secured Michael a replacement cooker through our One Number Programme, so he could cook hot meals safely again. Michael was registered on the Priority Services Register to ensure he can get further help in the future when needed.
Michael was also sent energy vouchers to help with the cost of energy bills and a Winter Warmth Support Pack filled with items to keep him warmer at home.
The help we provide is only possible because of the incredible support we receive. Your generosity can change lives and mean more people like Michael can feel warm, safe and secure in their home this winter and beyond.
Support Operation Warmth and help spread warmth and hope this Christmas.
