Day 19 Amanda's story

Advent Calendar Day 19: Amanda’s story

Amanda* and her adult child lived in a local authority property. The property had very poor draughtproofing and the council was looking into the damp, mould and condensation in the property.

Amanda had a severe respiratory condition and was advised by medical professionals to keep her home warm – at around 21 degrees – to protect her health and wellbeing.  Unable to work because of her health condition and with cost-of-living and rising energy costs, she was finding it impossible to afford to heat her home.

After contacting National Energy Action, our adviser applied for a fuel grant through our Warm Home Prescription scheme, securing Amanda a £700 credit for her gas meter. We also provided her with a Winter Warmth Support Pack filled with items to keep the family warmer and provided energy advice support and signposting to other organisations that could help her with other property issues.

Now able to keep her home at a safe temperature and with access to further support, Amanda told us: ‘It was an absolute lifesaver – I couldn’t have been more grateful for it; it made such a difference.’

The help we provide is only possible because of the incredible support we receive. Your generosity can change lives and mean more people like Amanda can feel warm, safe and secure in their home this winter and beyond.

Support Operation Warmth and help spread warmth and hope this Christmas.
