Advent Calendar Day 15: Linda’s story
Linda* lived with her husband in a local authority property. She was a carer for her husband who is disabled, immobile from the waist down and uses a hoist and electric bed.
She was referred to National Energy Action by her rent management adviser after she disclosed that she was struggling with her energy bills and high cost of living.
Our adviser organised immediate support for the family with some energy vouchers and a Winter Warmth Support Pack filled with items to keep them warmer.
As well as detailed energy efficiency advice, our adviser provided Linda with an air fryer, slow cooker and cookbooks, to help reduce energy costs when preparing meals.
Because Linda’s husband was medically dependent on electricity, our adviser was able to provide £500 of electricity top-up vouchers and a direct payment of £500 to her gas account from our Warm Home Prescription Scheme.
This support enabled Linda and her husband to stay warmer at home without the worry of whether they could afford it.
