Advent Calendar Day 9: Layla’s story
After separating from her partner, Layla moved into a privately rented home with her young children. She was suffering with poor mental health, fibromyalgia, and was struggling financially.
On a low income and still repaying energy and water debt from her previous property, combined with the cost of moving, Layla was unable to top up the energy in her new home. At the time our adviser spoke with Layla, both her meters were on the last of emergency credit. She was rationing her food and often going without so she could continue to feed her children.
Our adviser provided immediate support and comfort with £147 of emergency energy vouchers and £280 of supermarket vouchers. They also arranged for Layla to receive an air fryer to make cooking for the family more cost-efficient going forward and provided a coat and wellies for the children.
Layla also received a Winter Warmth Support Pack filled with items to help stay warmer at home.
The help we provide is only possible because of the incredible support we receive. Your generosity can change lives and mean more people like Layla can feel warm, safe and secure in their home this winter and beyond.
Support Operation Warmth and help spread warmth and hope this Christmas.
