Carbon monoxide awareness in fuel poor homes will support advisers providing information and advice to fuel poor homes, including hard-to-reach and vulnerable groups.

COURSE AUDIENCE

This training is available to partners involved in the ‘Warm Homes Healthy Futures’ Project and is offered as a fully funded webinar for frontline workers who support individuals with health conditions or disabilities worsened by living in cold homes. The course is designed for those seeking to enhance their knowledge of carbon monoxide awareness, making it ideal for advisers and professionals working with households at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. It also benefits anyone looking to learn more about minimizing the associated risks.

COURSE AIM

The aim of this course is to equip learners with the ability to recognise the carbon monoxide risks that are associated with fuel poor homes, and how to minimise the danger through a range of safety measures. It will link ill health with fuel poverty and explore ways in which to support vulnerable households.

OBJECTIVES

  • Identify the causes and problems associated with fuel poverty
  • Explain the link between fuel poor homes and ill health, both physical and mental
  • Explain the prevalence of carbon monoxide in fuel poor homes and its impacts
  • Discuss methods of minimising carbon monoxide in the home, in addition to alleviating symptoms of fuel poverty
  • Conclude with sources of financial and other support, including a focus on the Priority Services Register

  • Health impacts of fuel poverty, including physical, mental and carbon monoxide health risks
  • Carbon monoxide origins, symptoms and ways in which to spot CO

DELIVERY METHOD

Webinar – delivered live via Zoom (video conferencing facility) by our expert tutors to small groups to ensure a good level of interaction and support for learners. Participants will require a device with a camera and sound.

Following the webinar learners will also receive a handout booklet covering the course topics.
