Evaluation of the Wakefield Mega Solar project by Wakefield Council

The Wakefield Mega Solar project was funded through phase 2 of the Green Homes Grant Local Authority Delivery (LAD) scheme, which installed 115 solar PV systems between October 2021 and September 2022. The project aimed to improve the EPC score for low-income households living in homes with poor energy efficiency.

NEA was asked to conduct an evaluation of a sample of recipients, and 28 of the households receiving installations were recruited to take part in the study. This involved monitoring of the solar generation and household consumption using a hybrid inverter. 24 of the households also were interviewed as part of the evaluation.

The study assessed resident satisfaction of the installations and investigated any household behaviour change as a result of the project. It also considered the performance of the solar PV systems, the level of self-consumption of the solar generated energy and estimated monitory savings for households.
