April 2022 – APPG Chair Ben Lake MP appears in the House Magazine calling for energy efficiency investment
Ben Lake’s piece was in response to the Government’s Energy Security Strategy and argued that meeting Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards is a vital component of net zero and keeping bills down. He said that the Government needed to prioritise the new iteration of the Energy Company Obligation Scheme and increase funding for other schemes which support fuel poor households with energy efficiency measures.
July 2022 – APPG Vice Chair Peter Aldous appears in the House Magazine calling for a Social Tariff
Following NEA’s Parliamentary event on a Social Tariff, Peter Aldous argued that the current price cap cannot protect against unaffordable high prices and that an additional safety net in the form of a Social Tariff would shield the most vulnerable from high wholesale prices for the foreseeable future.
He also referred to NEA and Fair By Design’s report on the Social Tariff released in July 2022 with a Parliamentary launch event. This set out a series of high-level principles than any tariff must include – that vulnerable customers are auto-enrolled, that it is additional to other income support, that it is mandated across all suppliers, that it is targeted at the most vulnerable and it reduces costs for customers.
